HISTORY

Auxilium ARUWYE, the Social Development Office of the Province of St. Thomas the Apostle - Chennai came into existence in the year 1998 to facilitate the co-ordination of all the developmental activities of the Province. Auxilium ARUWYE, the Salesian Sisters’ Organization as a Social change catalyst is completely dedicated to the socio-economic uplift of the Youth at Risk and women of the working classes especially the poorest, through the works proper to the Institute such as Oratories, Youth Centers, Schools (Formal and non-formal) Professional Institutes, Shelter Homes and other initiatives for educating and training at various levels.

Description

Auxilium Centre for Under Privileged Women and Youth Empowerment(ARUWYE) is the Social Development Office (SDO) of the Salesian sisters of the Chennai Province which is committed to social ministry through its 23 social development centres embracing 10 districts of Tamil Nadu. ARUWYE coordinates and supports all the social developmental activities of the province by way of mobilization of resources towards financial assistance, provision of equipments and arrangements for need based trainings. ARUWYE facilitates in implementing, monitoring and evaluating the programmes. It takes initiative to building linkages with other NGOs and corporate offices for fund raising, co-ordinating programmes and for job placement. Developmental Activities: Serving the most vulnerable women and girls was at the root of our Charism.. We are aware that the poor are the protagonists of a new and more humane future. Facilitating children by giving quality education through Supplementary Evening Study Centre, Encouraging young people by giving best career guidance and placing them in decent job with reasonable salary. Self Help Groups organizing and empowering the women to access their rights through education, livelihood, savings and health and thus they become catalyst for their development. The income generating entrepreneur programmes, awareness on legal and government schemes support to enhance their financial and social status. This had led to their growth gaining self- confidence and recognition in the society. In the recent years , mass awareness campaign and public conferences are organized to develop collective strength of women to negotiate with state their due rights and entitlements.

Mission

ARUWYE is committed to enhance the capabilities of marginalized women, children and youth by raising awareness on their rights and promoting livelihood and pro- actively engaging with the state institutions that impact them significantly by networking with like- minded groups and organizations and engaging in lobbying and advocacy.


Objectives/Purposes

1. To empower youth, children and women with positive self profile through integral education and expanding employability skills.
2. To develop, disseminate and mainstream successful experiences, best practises, and rights based approaches and strategies.
3. To facilitate the ongoing capacity development of sisters and lay collobrators, especially in networking , campaigning, lobbying and advocacy. To promote holistic , preventive ad curative community health care methods, including psycho-spiritual.
4. To create greater visibility through publication of report, website, and engaging in micro researches.
5. To work closely with FMA-NDF in accomplishing its mission.
6. To create system and mechanism to mobilize resources through government, local, national and international organizations to support all the developmental activites.
